She rose to stardom in 1976 with Laverne and Shirley, and then went on to become the first woman in history to direct a film that grossed more than $100 million.
Actress and director, Penny Marshall has died at the age of 75.
Her publicist confirms that she died of complications from diabetes on Monday.
After her hit sitcom, she went on to direct "Big" in 1988, starring a young Tom Hanks. After that, she directed films such as "A League of Their Own" and "Awakenings".
She's also been credited with giving Mark Wahlberg his first acting gig.
Penny's family says, "Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall. Penny was a tomboy who loved sports, doing puzzles of any kind, drinking milk and Pepsi together and being with her family."
So sad about Penny.
