A 29-year-old Ajax woman is in custody, charged with attempted murder, after police say she tried to drown her three-year-old son.
It was on Thursday afternoon, around 4, when a passerby noticed a woman acting strangely and holding a small child on the railing of a bridge near Rotary Park.
The person talked to the woman and walked with her and ther child toward the parking lot.
After that person started walking away, police say they turned back to notice the woman, with child, headed to the beach area.
Soon after, the woman was allegedly seen holding the child unfder the water.
A second person jumped in to help and brought the child to shore, wrapping him in warm clothing until police and EMS arrived.
The boy wasn't hurt, and was released into the care of his father.
The woman was arrested and has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and failure to provide the necessities of life. She's been held for a bail hearing.
Police say they won't be releasing her name to protect the identity of the child.
The investigation is on-going, and police are looking for anyone else who may have seen what was happening on that night near Rotary Park.
