What began as an alleged jewelry store robbery, lead to a closure of the 401 in Durham on Tuesday.
Durham Regional Police say they were called to the store on King Street in Oshawa around 4:30 p.m. but the suspects were gone by the time officers arrived.
A short time later, police say, the suspect vehicle was seen getting on the 401.
The suspects allegedly tried to evade police and damaged several vehicles on the highway. Five people were arrested.
The westbound lanes were closed at Holt Road but all lanes have since reopened.
