Perhaps an omen of things to come for the Toronto Argonauts three days before they kick off in the 105th Grey Cup against the Calgary Stampeders Sunday.
The CFL handed out its annual awards at the league's dinner Thursday night in Ottawa and the Argos took home a pair of them.
Running back James Wilder Jr, who electrified fans in Toronto and around the league stepping in mid season, ran away with the Most Oustanding rookie award.
Wilder Jr. is th first Argos player since Derrell "Mookie" Mitchell to win the award. Mitchell won it in 1997, a year the Argos went on to win the Grey Cup.
The other award winner was Head coach Marc Trestman, already a well decorated CFL head coach in his years with the Montreal Alouettes. In his first season with the Argos, Trestman was named CFL coach of the year, after leading the Boatmen to first place in the CFL East Division.
The last Argos Head coach to win the award was Scott Milanovich, who took home the hardware in 2012, the last time the Argos won the Grey Cup, played here in Toronto. In that game they beat the Stampeders.
Quarterback Ricky Ray was up for the League's Most Oustanding player award, but Ray was beaten out by Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly.
