Bracebridge OPP have charged a 30-year-old man from British Columbia with second degree murder in the death of his father at a Gravenhurst cottage.
Police say they were called to a water-access cottage on Kahshe Lake at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
When they arrived, they found the body of 67-year-old victim. The man - from Brampton - has been identified as John Kehl.
Police say a "violent altercation" took place leading up to his death.
Charged is Adam Kehl. He faces one count each of second degree murder, indignity to a dead body and assault.
"Our officers had to take police boats to the scene in order to assist with the ongoing investigation," OPP Sergeant Peter Leon told NEWSTALK1010. "We did have members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit respond [Saturday] as well."
"Today (Sunday) we have officers from the underwater search and recovery unit that are currently on scene," Leon added. "They are assisting with respect to a water search, potentially for any edivence that may have been discarded."
Kehl is scheduled for a bail hearing in Bracebridge on Monday.
An autopsy - which will likely be scheduled for later in the week - will determine the exact cause of death.
Leon says they are always looking for more witnesses, but they have already had some help from the public.
"There were a number of people that contacted the OPP with regards to the altercation that had taken place, and our investigation is continuing with respect to interviewing those individuals and anybody who may have potentially seen or heard something that could assist with the investigation," he said.
