An attempt at getting a perfect vacation momento by Niagara Falls has put a 10-year-old boy in hospital with an apparent head injury.
Niagara Parks Police say the boy, who was visiting the Falls from another country with his family, was having his photo taken late Sunday afternoon when he plunged into the Niagara Gorge. Police say the boy was sitting on top of railing, posing for his mother's camera. As he tried to re-position himself, the 10-year-old lost his balance and fell backwards 80 feet into the rocky gorge.
It happened along the Niagara Parkway at Murray St--an area close the falls where the thundering waters spray a mist that makes surfaces slippery and prompts passing drivers to flip on their windshield wipers.
A high angle team rescued the buy and Ornge airlifted him to McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton.
At the scene, the boy's injuries were thought to be life-threatening but in hospital his condition is listed as serious but stable.
