Police say a 12-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after plunging to the ground from a sixth floor balcony of a North York apartment building
One of the first calls for help from address on Fountainhead Rd near Finch Ave W and Sentinel Rd was from the building manager.
Orlando says he got a call from someone living on the second floor at about 5:30 a.m. about a boy crying outside. When he went to investigate, Orlando found the boy unconscious, lying on the ground and he dialled 911.
Paramedics say the boy was conscious and breathing while being rushed to SickKids Hospital.
While it is not clear exactly what happened, police believe the boy fell in a case of "misadventure".
Sgt. Steve Tedford believes a recent warm-up in the city may have helped save the boy's life.
"The ground is soft and soggy. Had it been frozen, I think there would have been a lot more serious injuries than what occurred today."
