Health officials are reporting 615 new cases of COVID-19 in the province today, which is a slight increase compared to yesterday. It's also a little lower than the seven-day average of 624.
Of those new cases, 47% came in Toronto, with Peel Region reporting 88 new infections. York Region had 47 and Halton Region reported 26.
Keep in mind though, the assessment centres in the province are closed, while they try to work through the backlog of test results.
Still, 38,200 tests were processed, with the backlog now down to just over 68,000.
Five new deaths have been reported, pushing the provincial total up to 2,980.
58% of the new cases came in people who are 40 and younger while the percent of people 60+ getting sick was 15%. That is the most at-risk age category, where 95% of all deaths have occurred.
176 people are in hospital in the province, which is an increase of nine. But, the data is incomplete, since 35 hospitals didn't report data.
The number of active cases is now at 5,474, which is the highest level we've seen since April 28. 41% of the active cases are in Toronto.
The percent of tests coming back positive is at 1.5%, which is close to where it's been for the last week. Compare that number to April 24th, when we had 640 cases, and the number of tests coming back positive was at 5.2%.
