Joseph Brant Hospital is the first in the province to announce it's building a new makeshift hospital to try and be ready for a surge of patients as COVID-19 continues to spread.
The structure is being built in a parking lot and should be finished in about two weeks.
It will feature 93 beds, more than doubling the hospital's capacity to treat patients with the virus.
The company building the heavy duty tent tells the Globe and Mail it was designed to withstand winter weather and hurricane force winds.
It says it's in talks to build similar structures at other Ontario hospitals but won't reveal exactly where.
Yesterday, the province gave hospitals new permission to keep COVID-19 patients in retirement homes, hotels, and other buildings as needed.
