A frightening moment for passengers on an Ontario Northland bus Thursday afternoon.
The motor coach was heading eastbound on the 401 near Keele when the driver suffered a "medical issue", and briefly passed out.
A quick-thinking passenger noticed what was going on and jumped in to help, taking the driver's foot off the accelerator and steering the bus to the side of the road.
"He slowed the bus down because of the traffic and unfortunately he passed out for a couple of seconds," one passenger told CP24.
She said a woman near the driver quickly jumped into action.
"Got the driver's foot off the gas pedal, and sort of steered the bus into the next lanes".
The passenger says the driver came-to shortly afterwards, and was well enough to be able to park the bus on the side of the highway.
"He was thinking that he might be alright to take us to Yorkdale, which wasn't too far away, but we told him no."
Ontario Northland says another driver was dispatched and all passengers were delivered to their destinations.
The motor coach was travelling southbound from Sudbury to Toronto.
The driver is currently under medical care.
