New rules reportedly mean Canadian pilots don't actually have to fly a plane to keep a valid licence.
The Globe and Mail is reporting that under a change made back in August, pilots are only required to do flight simulator testing.
Under the old rules, pilots had to have flown in the last five years or done a review with an instructor and met other licensing standards.
The Canadian Federal Pilots Association told the paper the change is reckless and puts the public at risk.
National Chair, Greg McConnell, says there are skills that don't get exercised in a simulator.
Transport Canada told the Globe that the move will make pilot training more cost effective and that simulators offer a realistic environment.
