A close call for a driver near the Oakville Go station Wednesday evening.
The car she was driving was hit by a go service train then by a GO passenger train east of the Oakville go station,in the area of Cornwall and Chartwell roads at around 7 p.m.
The driver of the car had abandoned the vehicle after it got wedged on the tracks. Good thing too. The impact of the passenger train sent the car flying through the air further down the track and left a mangled twisted piece of metal. Halton Police Inspector Dave McCarthy described the impact to CP24.
"The vehicle was struck by two GO trains. One was a more glancing impact and the second impact ended up hurling the vehicle maybe 50 or 60 metres west of the level crossing."
Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins telling Newstalk 1010 the rational behind the driver's intentions at the crossing will be determined by an investigation.
" Thank goodness no one was in the car and it doesn't appear there were any injuries. We don't know why the car was there or why they were going through the level crossing."
The incident impacted Lakeshore West service and left about 1,000 passengers stranded on the train as investigators arrived on scene to access the impact and damage to the train.
Go did dispatch buses to get people off and over to the closest station, but many remained on the train clearly frustrated by the events that left them on board for over 2 hours.
Some frustrated passengers took to twitter to voice their displeasure.
"Go Train have the people imprisoned on the train just before Oakville. They have been there almost 2 hours. You are an inept, FIND A SOLUTION"

"It would have been nice to know this 2.5 hours ago when the customer service rep on my train said “this train is stopping at Clarkson there might be a shuttle bus if there are always cabs” #GOtrain #gofail

Eventually the train was allowed to continue to the next station nearly 3 hours after the incident.
