Charges have been laid in connection with a series of bizarre confrontations on and near Hwy 401 in Mississauga that ended with a fiery crash.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt explains that a little before midnight there was a group of motorcycle riders blocking westbound lanes of the highway near Dixie Rd. As a driver tried to get around the bikes, their car was damaged in what Schmidt describes as an act of mischief.
At least one of the motorcycles and car got off the 401 at Dixie. Once stopped at the bottom of the ramp, both sides clashed. A female passenger of the car was allegedly assaulted by a motorcycle rider.
The car and at whatever bikes were there took off down Dixie, leaving the woman at the side of the road. "I'm not sure who was chasing who," Schmidt tells NEWSTALK 1010's Moore in the Morning
Off Dixie Rd the driver of the car lost control and flipped it into a retaining wall before it burst into flames. The driver was able to escape with only minor injuries.
He has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of a controlled substance.
The passenger of the car suffered some cuts and scrapes.
Police are trying to track down the motorcycle riders involved. They could face charges.
A NEWSTALK 1010 listener shares that they have witnessed motorcyclists engaging in dangerous, agressive behaviour on 400-series highways for months. They describe watched riders stretch across all lanes, blocking the path of other motorists as they pop wheelies.
