Toronto Police have upgraded the charges against a 21-year-old man in the death of Tess Richey.
She's the 22-year-old woman who went missing from the Church and Wellesley area, at the end of November. Her body was found four days later.
In February, police charged Kalen Schlatter with second-degree-murder. Those charges were upgraded to first-degree-murder on Wednesday.
The upgraded charge doesn't mean that a murder was planned for months in advance.
"The suggestion is going to be that there was steps taken, some planning for some period of time, it doesn't have to be weeks or months or even hours, but some planning has to have taken place." says NEWSTALK1010's legal expert, lawyer Ed Prutschi.
Richey died of neck compression or strangulation.
There are indications, that the two had only met that night.
