A popular west end Christmas tree lot has been given a reprieve by the city of Toronto.
The tree lot, owned by Sarah Jameson, who owns Sweetpea's flower shop at 294 Roncesvalles Ave where the trees are being sold, had been given until 8 p.m. Wednesday night to sell all of its remaining trees after a bylaw complaint prompted city officials to shut it down.
The lot has been operating out of the same location without incident or complaints for seven years.
But a change of location for the trees on the same lot may have prompted the complaint , which according to the city is not zoned for commercial use.
Jameson started up a petition last week challenging the bylaw and garnered nearly 200 signatures.
But late Wednesday afternoon, Jameson received an email from the city allowing her to stay open. Jameson called into the Rush on Newstalk 1010 and could hardly contain her excitement as she spoke with Ryan and Jay.
" I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am right now. They have allowed us to stay open until all the trees have been sold."
Ensuring this is one Christmas the Grinch will not steal from Jameson's business.
"Like our little Christmas miracle totally happened we got like a stay of execution we are good to go. My best phone calls of the whole day today have been that I have been able to cancel our wood chipper and our disposal bin tomorrow."
