Keeping your sidewalk clear is not just being a good neighbour, it's also the law.
There's a city of Toronto bylaw on the books that states you have 12 hours to clean up the sidewalk in front of your house after a snowfall, or potentially face a fine.
But, let's face it. You're likely to never be fined.
NEWSTALK 1010 reached out to the city to find out how many people actually get a visit from a bylaw officer.
Here's a hint: not many.
Last winter, from November of 2017 to March of 2018, there were more than 2000 complaints called in to 3-1-1. Of those complaints, 15 hundred warnings were handed out.
As for fines, bylaw officers handed out a grand total of .... eight.
The fines work out to $125, so it's more than a slap on the back of the hand.
A spokesperson for the city says when it comes to the storm we saw this week, it's unlikely any fines have been issued.
