At the request of the family of murdered billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman, found dead in their Toronto mansion in December 2017, the city has granted a request to have the home demolished.
The North York Community Council approved of the plan after hearing from family deputant Eric Kirschenblatt, who said they will erect hoarding, bring the house down, remove debris and sod the property until it's sold.
"I was praying that it went that route," he said. "I think it's the way to go."
The house has gone unsold after being put on sale following the deaths, which have been deemed a double-homicide by Toronto police.
"It was very emotional, but I think they're relieved," he said of the family. "Out of all the good memories they've had, this is the one that's lasting."
"We'd like to put it to bed."
Kirschenblatt said if weather permits, they could get everything done in three weeks to a month.
There are still no suspects in the investigation and Cllr. James Pasternak spoke several times on the council floor about the circumstances.
"May the family be spared any further hardship and sorrow," he said after the vote.
