The main observation level at the CN Tower has been revamped.
Toronto's landmark turns 42 years old today and to celebrate the $16 million makeover was revealed.
The 114th floor used to house Horizons Restaurant which took up 50 per cent of the space. "You didn't get that walk around experience, you now have that, and we've moved the food to hubs in the middle," explains John McBain, President and CEO of Canada Lands Company.
The renovations include a second glass floor being installed. "The original glass floor, which was the first in the World, is down on level 2 and it's a view right to the bottom of the tower which is about 1,200 feet down. We put a glass floor directly above it on this level, level 3, so you look from one glass floor to the other.," McBain describes.
One of the most exciting changes is that the breathtaking views of Toronto are now fully accessible. "There were some parts before with the original windows, you can see how high the wall was, that lead to a separation of experience. If someone was small or in a wheelchair they couldn't see out."
He says the tower has also been technologically brought up to speed. "We have an app now, it's available on the app store or on Google. You load it for free, you register it to your views. You can point it at things and it will tell you what you're looking at."
