The Canadian National Exhibition says the Fire Ball ride like the one that came apart at the Ohio State Fair will not be part of this year's midway "until further notice".
An man was killed and seven people were injured, three critically when the swinging pendulum ride broke apart and crashed Wednesday.
The CNE says safety is a top priority and that it will continue to work with its midway provider, North American Midway Entertainment.
This year's Ex runs August 18 to September 4.
The CNE's full statement is below:
“We are saddened by the tragedy at the Ohio State Fair, and our thoughts are with those involved.
Safety is a top priority at the CNE. All amusement rides at the CNE are inspected and certified by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) prior to the opening of the fair; and inspected on a daily basis during all 18 days of the CNE by the midway company; they are also inspected by third-party safety engineers. These inspections ensure a high level of maintenance and that all safety standards are met.
The Fire Ball ride will not be part of the CNE until further notice. We will continue to work with our midway provider, North American Midway Entertainment, to ensure vigilance in upholding our high standards as well as those of the province and TSSA.”
