President Donald Trump's war of words with some members of the media has reached a new low.
CNN's Chief White House Correspondent, Jim Acosta, has been denied access to the White House.
In a tweet released tonight, Acosta said, "I've just been denied entrance to the WH. Secret Service just informed me I cannot enter the WH grounds for my 8pm hit."
This all comes following a heated exchange between Acosta and the President earlier today.
During a post-midterms news conference, Acosta stood up to ask the President several questions, but Trump was having none of it.
An intern tries to take the mic from Acosta, who pulls away, preventing her from taking it.
Trump goes on to call the reporter a "terrible" person, adding "I think you should let me run the country and you run CNN."
Tonight, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed Acosta's tweet. In a statement, she said the suspension of his press credentials stemmed from his "placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern." She went on to call Acosta's behaviour "absolutely unacceptable."
In a statement, CNN responded to the suspension saying it "was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference. In an explanation, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders lied. She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened. This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support."
Since he was elected, President Trump has targeted several media outlets for what he's deemed unfavourable coverage of him and his policies, popularizing the term "fake news" to describe them.
Many online have praised Acosta - and other media outlets - for trying to hold the President accountable for his words and actions.
There's no word as to how long the suspension will last.
