Customers hoping to pick up new licence plates or get new driver's licence photos taken were greeted with "No Service" signs at Service Ontario locations across the province on Wednesday.
NEWSTALK 1010 heard stories from other drivers who were left fuming after spending hours in busy waiting rooms, only to find out at the counter that a network outage means that they would have to come back another time.
All vehicle- and licence-related services are affected.
Written and practical drivers' licence tests are happening as scheduled.
Employees at the branch near King and Victoria Streets say the glitch left them unable to log into the processing system. They added that while network problems are not unusual, an outage that crippled the system for almost an entire day is out-of-the-ordinary.
The provincial government says IT engineers are working on a fix but were unable to say for sure how long that might take. The hope is to have service back to normal when business begins on Thursday morning.
Officials say that almost all services that can be done in person can be done online and urge anyone who needs immediate help to visit the Service Ontario website.
