There's movement in getting supervised injection sites up and running in Toronto.
Construction will begin on the site at Toronto Public Health next Tuesday and it should be open in the Fall.
Councillor Joe Mihevc, who is also the Board of Health chair, says there were some technical hiccups that almost slowed down the process.
"To get the work going on Tuesday you need a thing called a building permit. I can tell you because I called the chief building official and we're not supposed to call the chief building official because they have their pile and building permits are processed in order of receipt," he explains. "I said, basically, on behalf of public health and because we have a crisis before us, I am pleading with you, can you move that to the top of the pile? And, indeed, he did."
The city found out last week that the permits had been approved and issued.
There are two other supervised injection sites that will be built but no construction dates have been set for those.
