Construction on one of three safe injection sites in Toronto is set to begin today. The city's medical officer of health says the first site should be ready by the fall and will be located inside the Toronto Public Health building on Victoria Street, near Dundas Street East.
Toronto recently saw a string of six opioid deaths within a week, all believed to be caused by overdoses on the deadly drug fentanyl.
In addition to the three safe injection sites, the city of Toronto says it's also handing out more naloxone, a fentanyl antidote, to front-line staff.
