Two days after 15 people were shot along the Danforth, Toronto councillors are debating how to curb gun violence in the city.
They are voting on a staff report that recommends a list of new initiatives.
The recommendations include $30-million towards community programs for at-risk youth, mental health and employment services, as well as about $14-million for enforcement and new technology. The report recommends asking the federal and provincial governments for that funding.
"As long as we don't look at it as, here police solve it," police chief Mark Saunders told reporters at city hall. He argues that the solution will require various agencies and all levels of government working together.

On Monday, mayor John Tory met with the chief, premier Doug Ford and federal minister Bill Blair.
"The best thing coming out of the meeting is that we're absolutely, 100 per cent united in our resolve to taking action," Tory said.
