Subways are fast, and Toronto city council is hoping that's the speed at which new transit projects will be built.
Council gave the green light to a new plan, imagined by the Ford government, that includes the Ontario Line, the Scarborough subway extension, an extension of the Yonge line and the Eglinton West LRT.
Councillors voted 22-3 in favour and it comes a short time after the province backed away from their plan to take control of the subway system.
Toronto Mayor John Tory says all three levels of government are on side with the plan, so the time was right to move forward.
Under the deal, the province will pay the capital costs of a $30 billion transit expansion package.
The move also means the city would be able to put it's own funding towards "state of good repair costs", rather than construction of new projects.
