Concerning new numbers out of Peel Region this morning.
The area’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Lawrence Loh, says in the past few weeks, it’s become clear that people are ignoring gathering restrictions.
Even a couple of months ago, Loh says, COVID-positive patients had an average of five close contacts — people they had been within six feet of for at least fifteen minutes. Now the average number is 30.
“This means more complex investigations, higher risk of transmission, and it also means that precautions are clearly not being followed,” Loh says.
Loh says the region is not in a second wave — yet, but to keep things that way, people need to proactively shrink their social circles.
“Remember that in pandemic times, less is more,” Loh says. “The recent rollback on social gatherings — while disappointing for some — is a good start. And as you are able, I encourage all of you to consider shrinking your bubbles even further to your immediate household, your family, your essential supports.”
