It's a scam that the RCMP has been warning you about for years.
Someone calls you, claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency, and says you owe them money.
In some cases, victims are threatened with jail time, if they don't respond with funds.
But Police in India have arrested 70 people and shut down call centres, where scams like these allegedly centred.
The operation said the call centre employees would claim to be from the IRS and target people in the US.
In all, 700 people worked at these locations.
The RCMP says the scam worked the same way in both the US and here in Canada. The caller would only change the name of the agency they were calling from.
And Penny Hermann from the RCMP says the number of people reporting the frauds here in Canada have dropped since the arrest on October 5th.
Hermann says they weren't dealing with small amounts of money either.
"Based on statistics from Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) more than 1,900 victims have disbursed more than $5.7 million to fraudsters posing as government officials since January 2014."
She says the scams will likely continue, and warns that if you do get a call, to simply hand up the phone.
Officers are now looking to identify a number of known Canadian-based collaborators.
