Lawyers for CTV News say the network did nothing wrong in reporting allegations of sexual misconduct against former Ontario PC leader Patrick Brown.
In a statement of defence, the lawyers have denied Brown's allegations. Brown had said the network and several journalists involved in the story acted maliciously and irresponsibly in publishing what he calls "false accusations" against him, brought forward by two women.
The lawyers say Brown isn't entitled to $8 million in damages that he was asking for.
A CTV spokesperson says the statement of defence will be filed this coming Monday.
Brown stepped down from his post in January, after the allegations came to light.
A lawyer for the former PC leader says he looks forward to ``pursuing this litigation on behalf of Mr. Brown and to further his efforts to vindicate his reputation and seek appropriate compensation for the harm done to him.''
