A cyclist has died of their injuries after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening.
The accident occurred on Dundas Street and Denison Avenue, near Bathurst Street, just after 6 p.m.
Witnesses told our media partner CP24 they saw the cyclist, confirmed to be a 37-year-old male, was riding along Dundas Street when one of the bike tires got caught in the streetcar tracks.
He fell over and was then struck by a vehicle.
But Toronto Police Const. Orang Momeni told our media partner CP24, it's unclear why the cyclist fell.
"For some unknown reason, he lost control. He fell onto the pavement, in the curb lane, where a motorist was also going in the same direction eastbound. As a result the motor vehicle ran over the gentleman."
According to Const. Momeni, the victim was dragged for some distance suffering critical injuries.
Paramedics tried to revive the victim, who was rushed to hospital, but he later died.
The driver of the vehicle involved, remained on scene.
The investigation continues.
