New data shows that the minimum wage increase is affecting prices at restaurants, as well as in child care and housekeeping.
Statistics Canada is out with inflation information from the month of January, when the minimum wage went up more than 20 per cent in this province.
You were paying almost 5 per cent (4.9%) more at restaurants last month, than the same month a year ago.
Parents were also paying almost 10 per cent (9.9%) more for child care in January, than the same month in 2017. This category also includes housekeeping prices.
CIBC senior economist Royce Mendes says the numbers are not surprising given that labour makes up such a high percentage of costs in these industries.
