There are surprising new numbers on kids and mental health in this country.
New data reportedly shows a dramatic rise in the number of children and youth going to hospital emergency rooms for help with mental health or substance abuse.
The data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information, obtained by the Toronto Star, reportedly shows that between 2006 and 2016, the number increased by 63 percent. It also showed a 67 percent increase in hospitalizations.
Meanwhile, hospital stays for other health issues fell by almost 20 percent.
Advocates are calling for more provincial funding to help these children.
