The lawyer for a Hamilton man accused in a massive hack of Yahoo emails says the firing of FBI director James Comey has delayed extradition proceedings for his client.
Twenty-two-year-old Karim Baratov was arrested under the Extradition Act in March after U.S. authorities indicted him and three other people for computer hacking, economic espionage and other crimes.
His lawyer Amedeo DiCarlo says American officials and the RCMP have still not provided disclosure on the allegations against Baratov.
DiCarlo tells our sister station CTV Toronto that U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to fire Comey has held up proceedings against his client and they cannot set a date to meet to schedule the start of his extradition proceedings until June 16th.
Baratov has been denied bail, and an appeal on that decision will be heard next month.
