We've all been there.
Running out of a store or a restaurant, only to find that yellow parking ticket flapping on the windshield of your car.
Busted.
But what if you get a ticket and didn't even know what you were doing was illegal?
You should have known.
Like did you know, parking on a city street in Toronto for more than 3 hours is illegal?
"It's been in effect even before the amalgamation of the city." says Bruce Clayton from Toronto Operations. He's been working here for 29 years and it's been in place that long or longer.
But why aren't there more signs? It comes down to cost. Clayton says it would be far too costly to put up a new sign, multiple times, on every street in Toronto.
"Many years ago, we did get multiple complaints about people not being aware of this rule, so they posted signs as you enter the city."
And they don't really enforce it.
That is, unless somone rats you out.
"Often people aren't aware that the 3 hour limit exists, until someone calls to complain and then police come in and take care of enforcement."
