Toronto already has the Distillery District, the Entertainment District, but what about the Convention District?
A union representing hotel workers says they are losing jobs, because hotels are disappearing and being converted into condos.
Along with that, there's the threat that conventions may stop coming to Toronto, because of a lack of affordable hotel rooms.
Now, Toronto City Councillor Ana Bailao, suggests setting up a convention district in the city, and putting a moratorium on the conversion of hotels.
That would follow a similar move made in San Fransisco.
Toronto Tourism says in 2017, there were 951 meetings held in the city, which represented about 400,000 delegates, and those delegates spent about $634 million in Toronto.
