PC leader Doug Ford says 72 days ago he was hired to clean up the mess, and that's exactly what he's done.
Ford, responding to Liberal accusations Saturday concerning - in their words - "the potentially widespread use of stolen 407 ETR data," told CP24 that he takes the issue very seriously and he supports an OPP or Elections Ontario investigation. Should they find anything, he says the candidate in question would be removed from the party.
"When we found out from the candidate from Brampton East, we acted immediately and he was gone," Ford said at a campaign stop Sunday afternoon. "If I find out anyone else has any information, it's done - they're gone."
"We should be interviewing Patrick Brown, who he surrounded himself with, because I was elected by this party to clean up the mess," he added. "I think I've demonstrated that throughout the whole process in 72 days. I'll have zero tolerance for anything that goes on like that."
When asked about the unsolicited text messages that some Ontarians received - without ever having given their phone number to the PCs - Ford said the messages looked as though they were fake, but if they were real, he wouldn't tolerate it.
"I want to focus on what's mattering to people," he said, saying the issues people are really worried about are hydro rates, and gas and other taxes.
