After a rough ride on Christmas Eve and a significant slump leading up to it, the Dow Jones Industrial Average made huge gains Wednesday.
It closed higher by 1,086 points to 22,879 - it's largest single day point gain in history.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also saw significant gains, with the S&P rising 117 points to 2,468 and the Nasdaq up 361 to 6,554.
Retailers were among the best performers due to strong holiday sales.
The TSX and all Canadian markets were closed for the Boxing Day holiday.
On Thursday, the TSX will re-open at 13,780 after falling 155 points on Christmas Eve.
