A driver is lucky to be alive, after the top of his vehicle was crushed by yet another, runaway wheel.
In this case, it was a pair of wheels, that both came off together, from a gravel trailer being hauled by a transport truck.
OPP Sgt Kerry Schmidt says the two vehicles were travelling in the same direction, which made the impact a little less severe.
“Fortunately it was on the passenger side and he (the driver) was the lone occupant. He was able to get the vehicle off the highway safely and there were no injuries but it was a pretty frightening situation.”
Schmidt says he spoke with the driver, who he says was visibly shaken, but otherwise unhurt.
Police aren't sure how the wheels and the brake drum managed to come free, but say they are still investigating. Charges could potentially be laid against the driver of the truck.
It's the second case of a flying wheel in a week, with an incident on the 400 near Barrie, leaving a woman in her 20's with serious injuries.
