The driver of an SUV is dead after it collided with an ambulance near downtown Brampton.
Authorities say the crash happened around 8:30pm on Wednesday, at the intersection of Queen St. and McMurchy Ave.
Peel Regional Police Const. Danny Marttini says the ambulance was about to make a left turn onto McMurchy, from Queen, when the SUV entered the intersection.
"The vehicle did strike (the ambulance) and pushed them back a fair bit," Marttini tells CP24.
She says the SUV 'drove into the ambulance' as it was stopped at the intersection.
Marttini says the male driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and that there was nobody else in his vehicle.
Two Peel Region paramedics are being treated for minor injuries.
Police say the ambulance was 'in transit' when the crash happened, rather than responding to an emergency.
It isn't clear yet whether speed or alcohol might have been factors in the collision.
The investigation continues.
