It's been two weeks since the remains of a newborn baby were found washed up on a small, secluded beach in Pickering, and officers still have no answers as to who this baby was.
Durham Regional Police Service spokesperson Dave Selby says even after a post mortem exam of the child, very little information has been revealed.
"We were really hoping the post mortem could help us with this one, it didn't give us a lot of information so we need the public's help here, we need someone to step up and give us a call and let us know anything that they know about this," Selby says. "We've had some difficult investigations over the years. Usually there's more information to work from, so this case is a difficult one for us. That's why we've made that plea today, two weeks after the body was located."
Selby says someone knows something, and if the mother isn't able to contact police, someone in her life does.
"Any bit of information, any scrap of information could be helpful to us."
Selby says there are so many unknowns in this case.
"We really don't have a lot to go on, so we're asking for the public's assistance," Selby.
For anyone who wants to provide information but wants to keep their identity private, Selby urges them to contact Crime Stoppers.
