There's an LCBO in East York that was reportedly hit by robbers three times last week.
Unfortunately it's becoming the norm across the city.
Employees have been told to stand back, keep their mouths closed, and don't try and stop it.
In fact, almost half of all shoplifting cases in Toronto now involve an LCBO.
Paul was in line at the LCBO near Coxwell and O'Connor this past weekend and witnessed a heist firsthand when two masked men walked in. "The cashier stepped away from the desk and said in a pretty loud voice 'the masked bandits are here again, everybody! Look what they're go after tonight; they're going for the Grey Goose vodka.'"
He watched as the two men emptied the shelves into a hockey bag they brought to haul the goods away. "They were just unloading the shelf of Grey Goose vodka. They must have grabbed at least 80 to 100 bottles."
They were in and out in about a minute. "They were not at all concerned about any staff or customers. They were very calm. Once they unloaded the entire shelf, they calmly walked out, gave everyone the finger, and there was a waiting car in the parking lot and they just drove off.
Police arrived about four minutes later.
He wonders why more isn't being done to protect the merchandise, staff and public. "It's not even a complicated solution. Just have less of the merchandise out there in plain view and definitely security guards would say there's somebody here keeping an eye on things. It seems like this is a known problem now and the criminal community is aware of it."
"Shopper's Drug Mart locks up their razor blades. A security guard would work as a deterrent and maybe that's not the full solution. But, why would they display a hundred bottles of expensive merchandise right there by the door, nonetheless, on a shelf? I mean, it looks great from a marketing perspective but you don't go to the Apple Store and see all the iPhones or MacBooks stacked up on a shelf by the entrance or exit."
The LCBO has not responded to our request for comment.
