The 79yearold has wandered away from home and was missing for more than two hours.

A 79-year-old woman is very lucky to be alive after wandering away from her home in Stouffville, and falling into a lake on Thursday night.

York Regional Police say the woman's son noticed her missing around 9 o'clock from a home near Aurora Road and Ninth Line.

Cops were called and eventually heard screams coming from Musselman's Lake.

The woman was found in about four and a half-feet of water. She was rescued and treated for hypothermia.

"She was missing just after 9pm and located around 11:45pm. Probably not in the water that entire time, but definitely for a significant amount of time. Much longer and she may not have survived." says Constable Andy Pattenden.

Police took the chance to warn about the state of the ice on area lakes, saying the recent warm temperatures has deteriorated the ice.
