The City of Toronto, took the wraps of their new photo radar cameras on Tuesday, to coincide with the first day of school.
We all knew it was a pilot project that was coming, aimed at helping to keep school zones safe.
But it would seem, many people forgot to ease off on the accelerator.
In a conversation with NEWSTALK1010's Jerry Agar, incumbent councillor Jon Burnside revealed some new numbers.
"They clocked just over five thousand people, going 10 or more over the limit."
There are two pilot projects set up for the photo radar in Toronto. One in the Don Mills and Overlea Blvd area, and the second is near Avenue and Eglinton. Both are near schools.
But no tickets are being handed out just yet.
"This is purely an exercise in data collection, just to see how serious the problem is."
Burnside says the next step is to take that data to the province for regulatory approval, and to get more units on the streets.
