Smile, you'll soon be on (yet another) camera.
On January 28th, the TTC will be switching on the external facing cameras on their buses and streetcars.
They've been there for quite some time, but haven't been used because of privacy concerns.
"The issue has been one of what the camera captures, so we had to address some issues and concerns." says TTC spokesperson Stuart Green.
But don't think these will be like red-light cameras for those who speed past the open doors of the vehicles.
"This is another tool in that battle for sure, but these are more intended to capture things like vehicle collisions or police are trying to track the route of a particular vehicle. That sort of thing." adds Green.
The information captured will be held for 72 hours for buses and streetcars, while the video will be stored for seven days, on Wheel Trans vehicles.
