A 76-year-old Ajax woman was struck while crossing the roadway at Williamson Drive near Salem Road in Ajax.
On Sunday July 2, 2017 at approximately 9:54 p.m., officers from the West Division were called to the scene of a fail to remain collision involving a pedestrian in front of Williamson Drive East and Tunbridge Gate.
Witnesses state a newer white, mid-size sedan, possibly a Toyota or Honda was eastbound on Williamson Drive when it struck a pedestrian as she attempted to cross from the north side of the roadway.
The suspect vehicle slowed and then failed to remain, leaving southbound on Salem Road. Police are also looking to speak with the driver of a red Mazda 3 that was following the white sedan that may have been directly or indirectly involved.
The victim was taken to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition.
Weather and road conditions were favorable at the time of the collision. Police believe speed may be a factor in this collision as well.
Members of the Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the collision scene to conduct an investigation.
The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have information about or may have witnessed this incident. Anyone with new information is asked to contact the DRPS Traffic Services Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5267.
