The city of Toronto has announced the construction of more than 350m of barrier fencing along the Martin Goodman Trail after the death of a 5-year-old boy.
The child was riding his bicycle along the trail between the Boulevard Club and Palais Royale last Wednesday, when he fell off his bike onto Lake Shore Blvd.
The boy was struck by a vehicle and killed.
City staff launched a review of the trail, and have decided to put up a fence.
"This will provide more security and comfort for cyclists and pedestrians who use this trail," mayor John Tory writes in a statement.
Transportation Services is also continuing to examine other trail locations across the city that are adjacent to major roadways to see if any modifications would be beneficial.
