It's the end of an era.
After 100 years of building cars in Oshawa, the final General Motors vehicle is expected to roll off the line today.
The company announced last year that it would be shutting down production at the plant, putting nearly 3,000 jobs on the chopping block.
Only 300 people will be kept on as GM converts the plant to parts manufacturing.
For those who will be out of work, GM spokesperson David Paterson insists they are doing what they can to make sure the workers land on their feet.
"Half of them will have full retirement packages with a defined benefit payout of $4000 a month for life...$150,000 payout on top of that plus a new car voucher"
NEWSTALK 1010 has also learned that the final truck built at the plant will go to an employee.
Paterson says they are raffling it off. All the money raised in the raffle, over $100,000, will go to the Children's Aid Society in Durham.
