A two alarm fire overnight in dowtown Toronto left a Toronto firefighter with several broken ribs after falling from the roof of an abandoned row house.
The fire broke outĀ on Mutual Street near Gerrard and Jarvis streets around 3am Saturday morning.
Acting Chief Jim Jessop tells CP24 that the victim fell from the third floor roof of the structure.
"One of our staff, while conducting a primary search, ended up faling from the top floor of this building. Fell approximately 30 feet, called a mayday, firefighters found him immediately."
The firefighter was rushed to a trauma centre at St. Michael's hospital in serious condition following the incident, butĀ Jessop added the firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.
"We are really happy to report that the firefighter, although suffering a number of fractured ribs,is expected to fully recover."
The fire was subsequently put out.
Toronto Fire Services investigators are on their way to the scene.
