The chief of a southern Ontario First Nation says five members of the same family are believed to have died in a fire that destroyed their home.
Chief Randall Phillips of the Oneida Nation of the Thames, located 25 kilometres southwest of London says flames engulfed the residence around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
He calls the fire a ``terrible tragedy'' and says the loss of life is ``tremendous'' for the tight-knit community.
A local fire chief says the bodies of an adult and a child have been located in the burnt-out home so far.
Investigators are still going through the remains of the residence.
Phillips says the names of the victims will not be released until the Office of the Fire Marshal has completed the investigation.
