PC leader Doug Ford says he would modernize the sale of beer and wine throughout the province, should be elected on June 7.
Ford says a PC government would expand options for Ontarians, letting consumers pick up their alcohol in corner stores, additional grocery stores and box stores based on market demand - a policy that he would intend to implement as soon as possible.
In a news release, Ford said Victoria Day weekend is a good time to acknowledge that "Ontario is mature enough for this change and ready join other jurisdictions in making life a little more convenient."
Ford adds that the government would withdraw from a deal with foreign multinational beer corporations negotiated by the Liberals, and instead, encourage a level playing field.
Under the plan, the current LCBO model would be maintained and would continue to play a role in wholesale and distribution.
The news release states that all new points of sale would be forced to adhere to high standards of compliance and be regulated in a similar manner to how the Beer Store and LCBO are at the current time.
