June Rowlands has passed away.
The former Toronto Mayor held office between December 1991 through November 1994.
Rowlands also became the first female to hold the Office of Mayor in the city and the 60th mayor in Toronto history.
Prior to being mayor, Rowlands served as an Alderman/City Councillor for Ward 10 (North Toronto and Rosedale) from 1976 until 1988.
She was also Chairman of the Toronto Police Commission from 1988-1991.
In 2004 Davisville Park, was renamed June Rowlands Park, in recognition for her dedication to the City of Toronto. Located on the northwest corner of Davisville Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road (with her old Ward 10), the park is the recreational hub of the area, with a baseball diamond, children’s playground and wading pool. The Davisville Tennis Club operates the six courts along the north side of the park on Millwood Road.
June Rowlands was 93 years old.
